Issue 14 Unfurls its Petals!

There is so much satisfaction in longing. We wait through coolness for the violence of a daffodil’s yellow and wait through rain for the jonquil’s confident white. It is the moments borrowed in anticipation that make our whiskers, slick and straight, twitch when we catch honeysuckle on the wind. In the Spring, these desires, collected all winter, burst through in story, poem, song, and translations of sound-into-sound.

We move through the early days of May horizontally, turning our cheeks to cloud and

sun in equal measure. This issue, in its bundled greenery, some tiny thorns nestled in

stems, is how we wander vertically—into dream spaces, into realties cast under

halogen, darting below ripening moons, and laying backs to earth under a wished-for

comet. The work gathered here overflows its basket and we step into the pollen and

petal gratefully.

Each issue of this journal is a surprise in that we catch ourselves rubbing chin and

sharking heads, bewildered by our good fortune to be set to -this- work, in -these-

hours, for such a community.

May the excellent art assembled here be a bounty enough for you to prop your tired

feet, pat your full bellies, and breathe easier in its company.

Our gratitude is ever larger than all the lily fields of the East.
